A child may resolve to never play with a friend again following a dispute on the playground. The words are given in the heat of the moment and hurt, but we all know that usually lasts for a day until the domination of the sandbox is up for grabs again!
aAs an adult who has been sexually abused as a child, you may have made a resolution that "I'll never trust anyone again" or "I don't need anybody, I can do life on my own" or "I will never feel again". I will never ... never ... never!
So how is that working for you? Are you tired and worn out trying to keep all your resolutions?
Have you ever considered looking for an easier, better way to resolve your issue? Have you considered getting support from people who have gone through similar issues? What about letting God in? What about daring to move forward? You've already shown courage by accessing this website!
While you may not yet know Him, God has been with you all along. No, He NEVER intended for you to be abused, nor did He stand idly by while it happened. As God, Who can do nothing to contradict Himself, He gave to mankind the ability to choose for good or evil. When we as humans then, choose evil, evil is carried out in the world around us, resulting in pain, suffering, and horrible acts of depravation. But GOD! When we, as people who are in pain, suffering the effects of the evil around us, come to God, He reaches out to us and takes us in His arms. There we are safe, and we have the support and presence of Jesus to heal us.
So, how about a different resolve? "I will be open to help and support." "I will start to trust a few others, and see what that feels like." "I will become aware of who I am." I will ... will ... will!
